A Letter of Complaint

A Letter of Complaint
Dear Manager:
Much to my regret, I write this to place a complalnt against your bad delivery service of your company.
The Samsung tape recorder model number JB/4703 that I ordered from your company on Nov. 1, arrived yesterday. The serial number of the machine is 4703 -0641. I am sorry to report that the recorder has been badly damaged. There was no unusual damage to the packing case, but when I opened it, I fimnd that the lid of the recorder had been cracked and that the
front surface of the machine had been scratched.
Since there was such damage to the goods, I decided to file a complaint against the delivery service. Would you please let me know whether I should return the recorder to you for a replacement or if you have an authorized service representative here to which I should take it? I will hold on to this recorder until I hear from you.
Sincerely yours,
Jonathan Edwards

My taste

Since I was a child, I always dream about playing table tennis. I did play some nice ball games, but I often got beaten badly. However, it didn't reduce my interest in table tennis. I was crazy to stand in front of table and raised my paddle. As soon as I got off the school, I would rash to tennis table right away. There were few tables on the school, therefore I had to wait for a long time to play but my skill didn't improve much. Nevertheless, I didn't care about it. I thought I had a good time in playing table tennis and I listed it as my best taste.
Now, I am grow-up and have left school for a while. I don't have time and hardly find a friend to play table tennis. But doctor said I needed some exercise for my health. I figured out I still could play table tennis, only if I played the ball against the wall. Many of my friends passed by my house. They llikely came in to see me, because they heard the noices of ball bouncing back and forth. It was my exercises in playing table tennis without table. They were curious about my crazy action. I didn't mind they made fun about me. I, on the other hand, liked to introduce to them that was my taste and fancy way of exercise.

Rate of Oollese Students Who Have Cell Phones

This chart shows the rapid increase in the rate of students who have cell phones in a university between1999 and 2003. In 1999, only 3 percent of the students had cell phones while in 2001 the rate rose to 18 percent. In 2003, however, the rate soared to 56 percent.
Several factors have attribute to this significant change. The most important is the development of the cell phone industry which has made the cell phone cheap, and the telecommunication industry which provides the users with a better service. Many years ago, for example, it took about several thousand, or even more than ten thousand yuan to buy a cett phone. Now, however, a cett phone of excellent quality costs onty about one thousand yuan. The next important reason is that many students now hold a part time job, which enables them to have more pocket money. They can spend this money on anything they like.
Although cett phones bring college students a tot of benefits, they have atso caused some problems. Some students, for instance, do not turn their cett phones off during classes, as a result, they often interrupt their teachers and classmates during lectures. Other students sometimes use their cett phones for other purposes. They send meaningless or even pornographic messages to make fun. So I would tike to suggest here that students should make better use of their cell phones.

Icebergs

Icebergs are among nature's most spectacular creations, and yet most people have never seen one. A vague air of mystery envelops them. They come into being —– somewhere ——in faraway, frigid waters, amid thunderous noise and splashing turbulence, which in most cases no one hears or sees. They exist only a short time and then slowly waste away just as unnoticed.

Objects of sheerest beauty they have been called. Appearing in an endless variety of shapes, they may be dazzlingly white, or they may be glassy blue, green or purple, tinted faintly of in darker hues. They are graceful, stately, inspiring —– in calm, sunlight seas. But they are also called frightening and dangerous, and that they are —- in the night, in the fog, and in storms. Even in clear weather one is wise to stay a safe distance away from them. Most of their bulk is hidden below the water, so their underwater parts may extend out far beyond the visible top. Also, they may roll over unexpectedly, churning the waters around them.

Icebergs are parts of glaciers that break off, drift into the water, float about awhile, and finally melt. Icebergs afloat today are made of snowflakes that have fallen over long ages of time. They embody snows that drifted down hundreds, or many thousands, or in some cases maybe a million years ago. The snows fell in polar regions and on cold mountains, where they melted only a little or not at all, and so collected to great depths over the years and centuries.

As each year's snow accumulation lay on the surface, evaporation and melting caused the snowflakes slowly to lose their feathery points and become tiny grains of ice. When new snow fell on top of the old, it too turned to icy grains. So blankets of snow and ice grains mounted layer upon layer and were of such great thickness that the weight of the upper layers compressed the lower ones. With time and pressure from above, the many small ice grains joined and changed to larger crystals, and eventually the deeper crystals merged into a solid mass of ice.
